The Committee that was constituted to review the 2016 Statutes of the University of Cape Coast has presented its draft to the management of the University. 

The Committee, chaired by the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ghartey Ampiah, was mandated to conduct a comprehensive review of the existing statutes to improve clarity, consistency, and address identified gaps. 

In his remarks, Prof. Ampiah noted that the committee engaged widely with various constituents of the University and consulted all relevant stakeholders to ensure the draft reflects a broad consensus within the academic community.

Receiving the document on behalf of Management, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, commended the Committee for its dedication and thorough work.

He recalled that although the Committee had submitted an initial report in 2021, they were directed to undertake further consultations to strengthen the draft.

Prof. Boampong indicated the need for a corresponding review of the UCC Law to align with the proposed changes.

“We need to revisit the UCC Law which was previously submitted to Parliament, to ensure legal backing for provisions in the new statutes that are not currently supported by the existing law,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor, therefore, charged Prof. Ampiah and his team to initiate the process of reviewing the UCC Law for Council’s consideration and eventual submission to Parliament.

Present at the meeting were the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Denis Worlanyo Aheto; and the Registrar,  Gideon Enoch Abeyquaye (Esq.).
