The University Primary School (UPS) has held its Annual Speech and Awards Day to mark the end of the 2025/2026 academic year, bringing together parents, staff, alumni, and guests to celebrate its pupils' achievements.
This year's event, held under the theme "Recognizing Academic Excellence, Celebrating Character and Creativity," reaffirmed the school's vision of becoming an excellent primary school that provides quality primary education for all learners.
Awards were presented in two categories: Special Awards and class-by-class honours, covering Basic 1 to 6, as well as recognition of some tutors for their distinguished service. Pupils were celebrated not only for emerging as the best in their respective classes but also for showing improvement in academic performance, good conduct, and creativity.
The awardees received certificates of honour and stationery for their efforts.
The Acting Headmaster, Dr. Francis Kwaku Kyeremeh, in his address, indicated that the school had made significant progress in academic, administrative, and co-curricular domains.
Highlighting key milestones achieved during the academic year, he made particular mention of five students from the school who received awards during the Chinese Bridge National Competition Awards ceremony. This also recognised the outstanding performance by UCC’s Confucius Institute.
The headteacher indicated that the school had received international commendation from a visiting delegation from Naruto University, Japan, for its high standards of teaching, learning, classroom management and learner engagement.
Dr. Francis Kwaku Kyeremeh also noted some challenges encountered, and measures being taken to address them.
He also expressed his appreciation to the PTA executives, parents, staff, learners, and the University management for their efforts and continued support.
"Together, we can continue to strengthen the University Primary School and maintain its reputation for academic excellence and holistic learner development, he added.
A senior lecturer with the Department of Basic Education, UCC, who chaired the event, Dr. George Adom, described the occasion as a significant milestone in the academic calendar due to its role in recognizing outstanding learners.
Dr. Adom noted that the awards not only celebrate exceptional performance, but also serve as a motivating platform for other students to work harder and improve their academic results.
Dr. Adom encouraged the pupils to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to their studies.
He urged them to put in consistent effort, cultivate good study habits, and maintain high standards to achieve their goals.
The Chairperson emphasized that discipline and hard work remained key ingredients for success, adding that learners should use the recognition as inspiration to strive for excellence in their future academic endeavours.
The event also witnessed performances by pupils to the admiration of guests who graced the occasion.
