The College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences Students Association- Ghana (CANSSAG) has inaugurated a students’ senate, also known as students’ governance, with a call on the members to be the true voices of students in the College.
The student senate is representative bodies composed of students elected by their peers to voice out their opinions, concerns and ideas within the various departments in the College.
The executives of the CANSSAG students’ senate include the Speaker, Nanevi Lord Kojo, Ist Deputy Speaker, Ernest Baah Ampadu, 2nd Deputy Speaker, Prince Koomson, Clerk, Ibn Chambas Aida, Marshal, Koomson Bright Hammond, and Protocol Head, Joseph Amoakoh.
In an address at the inauguration ceremony, the Provost of the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences, Prof. Rofela Combey, pledged her commitment to ensure the student senate's growth and sustainability, as well as the realisation of its potential.
She said the student senate was not just a symbolic gesture, but rather a platform for real and meaningful engagement and space where the ideas, concerns and aspirations of the students would be heard.
She expressed excitement for the turnout of the students for the inauguration ceremony and charged them to advance and debate on issues that would build a resilient student front within the College.
Prof. Combey said “the Senate will serve as a crucial bridge between the student body and the College administration. Your insights, ideas, and concerns are not merely welcomed – they are essential to the health and progress of this College.”
She charged the newly inaugurated members of the student leaders Senate “ to go forth and lead with passion, purpose, and a steadfast dedication to the betterment of our College, University and our nation. The trust your peers have placed in you is sacred – honor it every day.”
