The two Level 200 students, Jessica Adwoa Sersah and Kingsley Amankwa Awuakye, recorded CGPAs of 3.7 and 4.0, respectively. They both received a cash prize of two thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS 2, 000).
The Head of the Department of Information Science, Dr. Kwaku Anhwere Barfi, welcoming attendees to the ceremony, celebrated the achievements of the recipients.
He commended GCB Bank for its continued investment in education by awarding scholarships to deserving students in the Department.
He noted that the support would help alleviate the financial burden on families and inspire students to excel academically.
The Central Regional Manager of GCB Bank PLC, Mr. Anthony Sowah, said the financial assistance would encourage the beneficiaries to study harder and fully develop their potential so they could contribute meaningfully to national and community development.
He said GCB Bank PLC had been intentional in its agenda by introducing youth banking, which forms part of the bank’s commitment to empowering young citizens with financial literacy, access to banking, and mentorship at every stage of life.
He further stated that the bank would continuously support the youth to focus on creating meaningful solutions to grow, innovate, and succeed in the rapidly evolving digital economy.
Mr. Sowah emphasized the significance of financial awareness and the critical role young people play in shaping the future of banking.
He also dispelled common misconceptions and shared financial truths that empower young individuals to make informed financial decisions.
He urged the youth to adopt a proactive approach to saving and investing from an early age.
Mr. Sowah added that the bank would continue scaling up the initiative with the goal of reaching more students in the years ahead.
The Provost of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies, Prof. Daniel Agyapong, expressed gratitude to GCB Bank PLC and urged the beneficiaries to maintain academic discipline and good character.
The Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Rev. Prof. Richard Ansah, congratulated the scholarship recipients for their hard work and perseverance and encouraged them to remain focused on their studies.
He also urged them to make good use of the opportunity to influence society positively.
One of the recipients, Mr. Kingsley Amankwa, on behalf of his colleague, expressed appreciation to the bank.
