A total of 103 students have been awarded at this year’s Dean’s Awards ceremony of the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
The event was on the theme “Together in Excellence: Celebrating Achievement, Partnership, and the Next Generation of Nursing and Midwifery Professionals."
The Dean’s Award ceremony is held annually to celebrate students who have obtained a CGPA of 3.6 and above at Levels 200 to 400.
Also at the event, Level 200 nursing and midwifery students were formally inducted into the professional programme.
The Academic Excellence Award recognized outstanding undergraduate continuing students who have consistently maintained First Class Honors and postgraduate students who excelled specifically in their Research Methodology coursework.
Amplifying the spirit of community and holistic development, the Dean's Special Recognition Award was conferred upon cognate faculty members, the best-performing administrative staff, and exceptional alumni who have contributed immensely to the School’s growth, as well as students who demonstrated exemplary leadership and volunteer services extending well beyond their academic requirements.
The Clinical Partnership Award was presented to various healthcare facilities in recognition of their invaluable contributions to the practical and professional training of students, cementing the vital link between classroom education and hands-on clinical mastery.
Delivering a keynote address, Mrs. Margaret Nyarko-Sampson, the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer of the Central Regional Health Directorate, emphasized that true excellence is never an isolated feat but is achieved through collaboration, shared responsibility, and strong partnerships.
She noted that the ongoing partnership between the University and external associations has been instrumental in training these future healthcare professionals.
Addressing the newly inducted Level 200 students, Mrs. Nyarko-Sampson reminded them that they are preparing to enter a profession that is absolutely vital to human life, highlighting that nurses and midwives are often the first point of contact in healthcare delivery.
She said the quality of patient care relies heavily on cross-disciplinary collaboration, and therefore urged the inductees to take their clinical practice seriously, give their absolute best, and continuously avail themselves of opportunities for hands-on, practical learning.
She further challenged them to be innovative, adaptable, and committed to lifelong learning, while grounding their daily practice in dignity, compassion, empathy, respect for human dignity, and evidence-based care.
Mrs. Nyarko-Sampson stressed that the future of healthcare delivery depends entirely on them, reminding the audience that excellence remains a collective responsibility fostered within a collaborative ecosystem.
The Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, UCC, Prof. Jerry Paul Ninnoni, congratulated the awardees and encouraged them to remain committed to excellence.
“The award is more than a recognition; it is a testament to your hard work. Let it motivate you to do more. " Prof. Ninnoni added.
Prof. Ninnoni challenged the inductees to view themselves as catalyst to transform healthcare in Ghana.
He reminded them that they have entered an incredibly noble profession, which demands that they carry themselves with utmost respect and bring dignity to the calling.
Prof. Ninnoni admonished the students to diligently prepare themselves across three critical dimensions: professionally, intellectually, and ethically.
The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere, congratulated both the new inductees and the award winners, imploring them to remain committed to continuous learning and self-improvement.
He charged the future health practitioners to serve their communities with unyielding dignity and compassion.
Emphasizing a global outlook, Hon. Okyere urged the students to be highly strategic and to actively partner with other healthcare professionals, noting that such multidisciplinary synergy is essential to ensuring high-quality healthcare delivery not only across Ghana but also on the global stage.
The Provost of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Prof. Rofela Combey, admonished the newly inducted and awardees to serve with uncompromised integrity and to always strive for excellence in all their professional undertakings.
