Ucc Deepens Collaboration With University of Cincinnati, University of Tsukuba

The University of Cape Coast, UCC, the University of Cincinnati, USA, and the University of Tsukuba, Japan, have held discussions to deepen collaboration.

The American delegation was in UCC for a short study abroad programme with faculty from their university, whilst the Japanese group was in UCC for an exchange programme with the Centre for Coastal Management (CCM) -Africa Centre of Excellence for Coastal Resilience (ACECoR).

At a dinner reception, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Denis Aheto, welcomed the delegations and said UCC would continue to deepen the partnership, expressing the University’s interest in long-term co-operation.

He indicated that the collaboration had the potential to enhance research output, broaden cultural understanding, and provide diverse learning experiences for Ghanaian and American students alike.

For his part, the leader of the delegation from the University of Cincinnati, Prof.  Prince Ellis, gave an overview of why the University of Cincinnati sees Ghana, and UCC specifically, as a strong partner.

He expressed gratitude to UCC for the warm hospitality accorded to the delegation and said the trip to Ghana would enhance their students' experience.

The Dean of the Office of International Relations, UCC, Prof. Samuel Bert Boadi-Kusi, described the visit as a major milestone in the long-standing partnership among the three universities.

For the students from the University of Tsukuba, their programme was an Interdisciplinary Field Study Programme for Co-Creating a Harmonious Future.

Prof Masao Ichikawa observed that the Programme was to provide learning opportunities to Japanese and Ghanaian students with a wide range of academic backgrounds to interact with each other through online study and fieldwork in Ghana and Japan.

He noted that this would lead to analysing social challenges faced in the respective countries by system or design through global and local lenses.
