The Directorate of Public Affairs (DPA) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has hosted a delegation from the University Relations Office (URO) of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and promote the exchange of best practices in university communication.
Welcoming the delegation, the Registrar, Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye, Esq., described the visit as a significant opportunity for two administrative units of public universities to learn from one another and explore avenues for strategic partnership. He expressed UCC's delight in receiving the team and encouraged the visitors to make the most of the engagement by asking questions about the University's communication structures and operations.
"This engagement provides an opportunity for us to share experiences and learn from each other as we continue to strengthen communication in our respective institutions," he noted.
The Acting Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Kwabena Antwi-Konadu, gave a comprehensive presentation on UCC's communication architecture, highlighting the Directorate's structure, mandate and operations.
He explained that the Directorate comprised specialised sections with clearly defined responsibilities that work collaboratively to enhance the University's visibility, protect its reputation, and effectively communicate its achievements to internal and external stakeholders.
Dr. Antwi-Konadu also provided an overview of the University and outlined the strategic role of the Directorate of Public Affairs in supporting the University's mission through effective corporate communication, media engagement, protocol management and institutional documentation.
Speaking during the engagement, the newly appointed Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Gladys Atta Gyamfi Abbeyquaye, who assumes office on August 1, 2026, described the visit as a valuable learning experience for both institutions. She expressed optimism that such knowledge-sharing engagements would continue to foster innovation and excellence in university communication.
The Director of Public Affairs of UENR, Dr. Alfred Ohenenana Appiah, explained that as a relatively young university, UENR was strengthening its public relations and communication systems. He said the visit to UCC was intended to learn from the University's well-established communication practices and adopt strategies that would enhance the operations of the University Relations Office.
He expressed appreciation to the management of UCC and the Directorate of Public Affairs for the warm reception and the openness with which they shared their experiences.
As part of the engagement session, the Heads of the Directorate's four sections—Documentation and Information, Media and Communication, Protocol, and Public Relations—made presentations on their respective mandates, operational processes and key achievements. The interactive session also provided an opportunity for members of the UENR delegation to seek clarification on various aspects of UCC's communication systems and exchange ideas on contemporary public relations practice in higher education.
