A send-off ceremony has been held for the 2016/17 National Service Personnel posted to the University of Cape Coast (UCC). The personnel, numbering 750, were posted to the University after completing their tertiary education to undertake their mandatory national service. Organised by the Directorate of Human Resources, the ceremony was aimed at recognising personnel for their tireless work and services to the University. In an address read on his behalf by the Provost of the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences, Prof. L.K Sam Amoah, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. K.T Oduro, commended the service personnel for undertaking the compulsory national service to the country. He expressed confidence that the wealth of experiences they had gained from UCC would be brought to bear on their future job. Prof. Oduro urged them to be good ambassadors of the University and diligently exhibit the values of hard work, humility, obedience, respect and duty consciousness in all their endeavours. "It is our prayer that you will continue to be good ambassadors of the University of Competitive Choice by exhibiting hard work, humility, obedience, respect and duty consciousness wherever you may be," he said. The Pro Vice-Chancellor called on them to contribute their quota to the development of their alma mater, in particular, and Ghana, at large. He enjoined the personnel to seek the face of God in all their ways and never allow the scourge of mass unemployment in the country to shutter their dreams. He, therefore, urged them to take advantage of every opportunity that might come their way, regardless of " how little it may seem to them", stressing that " since that could lead to greater fortunes. " For his part, the Director of the Directorate of Human Resource, Rev. Isaac Baafi, expressed gratitude to the personnel for their dedicated service to duty and urged them to be innovative and self- productive even after national service. A service person, Miss Wendy Aniagyei, who spoke on behalf of her colleagues, expressed heartfelt gratitude to management of the University for offering them the chance to serve the country. However, she used the occasion to catalogue some of the challenges, including high cost of accommodation and transportation, personnel faced and called on management to take measures to address them for prospective national service personnel who would be posted to the University. Certificates were presented to personnel in honour of their meritorious services and dedication to duty.
