The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) has expressed interest in supporting development projects at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) as part of efforts to strengthen its partnership with the University.
This came to light when a delegation from ADB paid a courtesy call to the Vice-Chancellor.
The team, led by the Assistant Area Manager for the Central and Western Regions, Mr. Joseph Arhinful Biney, explained that the visit was in response to an earlier invitation by the Acting Vice-Chancellor for the Bank to explore possible investment opportunities within the University.
Mr. Biney noted that through preliminary engagements with the School of Medical Sciences and the University Health Services Directorate, a number of potential projects had already been identified for possible funding. According to him, the Bank would soon submit a formal proposal to express its interest in supporting the selected projects.
“ADB and UCC have built a solid relationship over the years, and we are ready to contribute further to the development of the University,” he stated.
In his remarks, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Denis Worlanyo Aheto, commended ADB for responding positively to the University’s call to explore funding opportunities. He emphasised that UCC offered several viable projects that financial institutions could invest in for the benefit of both the University and society at large.
Prof. Aheto particularly highlighted the need for a modern mega laboratory at the University Hospital to enable the facility to conduct a wide range of advanced medical tests. He explained that the hospital serves not only students and staff of the University but also residents of surrounding communities, making the expansion of its infrastructure critical.
He noted that apart from the staff and students, the University Hospital provided services to people from the adjoining communities.
“This underscores the need to expand our facilities so we can serve clients better. We believe partnerships with institutions such as ADB will help us mobilise the resources needed to improve our infrastructure and enhance the quality of services we provide to both the University community and the public,” he noted.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor added that the University looked forward to receiving a formal proposal from ADB outlining the projects the Bank intended to support.
Present at the meeting were the Registrar, Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye, (Esq.); the Acting Director of Finance, Mr. George Amfo-Antiri; and the Senior Assistant Registrar at the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Alfred Ghartey.
Other members of the ADB delegation included the UCC Branch Manager, Ms. Justina Yiadom-Boakye; Customer Service Officer, Ms. Ellen Aidoo; and Relationship Manager, Mr. Benard Ofori.
