Dric Holds Dissemination Workshop on Data Reporting

The Directorate of Research, Innovation and Consultancy (DRIC) at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has organised a dissemination workshop on Data Literacy Training Project.

The project, funded by IREX, a global non-profit organisation focused on education and development, sought to equip staff and students with essential skills in data reporting and management.

Opening the workshop, the Director of Human Resources, Mr. Isaac Adom-Konadu, advised participants to treat issues of data seriously. He particularly encouraged postgraduate students to develop strong data management and reporting skills to support their dissertation and thesis work

Mr. Adom-Konadu noted that data literacy was critical in transforming raw data into meaningful insights that inform effective decision-making.

Speaking at the workshop, the Principal Investigator for the Data Reporting Project, Alex Boadi Dankyi, explained that the project provided training for selected staff who handle data in their line of duty. According to him, the training focused on data management, data interpretation, reporting systems, and data governance.

He noted that the pilot training revealed that the University needed to intensify data literacy for all staff who handle data.

To this end, he said the curriculum and materials on data literacy would be presented to the Training and Development Section of the Directorate of Human Resource to institutionalise the training of all categories of staff on data literacy to streamline operations by aiding in resource allocation and inventory management.

Touching on research, Dr. Dankyi said students had to use the right procedures in accessing data for their research. “It is unethical and a breach of the law for students to cook data for their thesis or dissertation and their research work’

He further indicated that a specialised training workshop on data reporting and data analysis would be organised for postgraduate students to strengthen their capacity to effectively use data in their academic work.

The dissemination workshop was attended by staff and postgraduate students.
